If your practice already has monthly or annual goals — great. You’re ahead of the game.
But if you’re not consistently tracking toward those numbers — or if your team has no idea what they’re aiming for — this post is for you.

Let’s break down goal setting into something practical, actionable, and not at all overwhelming. Because here’s the truth: if you don’t know where you’re going, any number will do. And that’s no way to run a business.

Step 1: Set Your Ideal Annual Production Goal

Start by deciding how much you want your practice to produce in a year. This number should be based on your vision, capacity, and revenue needs — not just what you did last year.

🧠 Example: You want to produce $2.4 million this year.

Step 2: Break It Down Monthly

Divide your annual goal by 12 to get your baseline monthly production target.

📊 $2.4M ÷ 12 months = $200,000 per month

This is your minimum monthly production if you want to stay on track.

Step 3: Analyze Last Year’s Performance

Look at your total production from last year. Let’s say you produced $2.1M.

Determine your target growth:

📈 $2.4M (goal) – $2.1M (last year) = $300,000
$300,000 ÷ $2.1M = ~14.3% increase

Step 4: Apply the Growth to Each Month

Take each monthly production number from last year, and multiply it by 1.143 to apply your 14.3% growth goal.

BUT — here’s the safety net: If any month is still below your $200,000 baseline, bump it up. This prevents short months from derailing your annual goal.

Step 5: Get to the Daily Goal

Now take each month’s goal and divide it by the number of doctor days in that month (doctor days are days the doctor is present to see patients).

📆 Example: $200,000 ÷ 16 patient days = $12,500/day production goal

Now you have a clear, trackable daily number your team can rally behind.

Step 6: Share It & Tie It to Action

Let your team in on the goal. Post it. Talk about it in huddle. Most importantly, tie it to a team incentive (more on that coming soon). When your team knows the target — and has something to work toward — they will rise to the challenge.

One Last Note: Don’t focus only on case starts. Every dollar counts toward your production goal — from retainer fees to add ons like whitening and retainer insurance plans, it all adds up.
